At Spanish English, we take your privacy seriously. In an age where tech companies treat user data as a commodity to be harvested and monetized, we take a radically different approach: we genuinely don't want your data.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect (spoiler: almost nothing), how we use it (spoiler: we don't), and your rights regarding your data. We've written this in plain language because legal jargon shouldn't obscure what should be a simple concept: your translations are private.
Simple version: We don't collect personal information, we don't store your translations, we don't track you across the web, and we don't sell data to anyone. Period.
Unlike most online services, we collect minimal information. Here's exactly what we do and don't collect:
What We DO Collect:
Temporary Translation Data: When you use our translation or text-to-speech services, we temporarily process your text to generate results. This data is held in memory only for the duration of the request (typically milliseconds to a few seconds) and is immediately discarded after delivery.
Basic Technical Information: Like any web service, our servers automatically collect basic technical information including your IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system. This information is used solely for security purposes, preventing abuse, and basic system diagnostics. We do not use this information to track you or create user profiles.
Anonymous Usage Statistics: We collect aggregated, anonymous statistics about how our service is used—such as total number of translations, most popular language pairs, and general traffic patterns. This data is fully anonymized and cannot be linked back to individual users.
What We DON'T Collect:
• Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
• Account credentials (we don't have user accounts)
• Payment information (our service is free)
• Location data beyond general geographic region
• Browsing history or behavior across other websites
• Permanent copies of your translations
• Audio recordings of any kind
• Device identifiers or fingerprinting data
The minimal data we do collect serves specific, limited purposes:
To Provide Our Services: We process your text temporarily to generate translations and text-to-speech output. This is the core function of our service and the data is discarded immediately after processing.
To Prevent Abuse: We use basic technical information to prevent spam, automated attacks, and other malicious activity that could disrupt the service for legitimate users.
To Improve Our Service: Anonymous, aggregated statistics help us understand which languages are most requested, identify technical issues, and make informed decisions about which features to prioritize.
To Comply with Legal Obligations: In rare cases, we may be legally required to retain certain information for a limited period. We will only do so when legally compelled and for the minimum time required by law.
We do NOT use your information to: create user profiles, serve targeted advertising, sell data to third parties, track you across the internet, send marketing emails (we don't have your email), or train AI models on your specific translations.
We respect your rights regarding your personal information, even though we collect very little.
You have the right to know what personal data we hold about you. Since we don't maintain user accounts or store translations, there's typically no personal data to access—but you're welcome to ask.
If we somehow have incorrect information about you (which is unlikely given we don't collect personal data), you have the right to request corrections.
You can request deletion of any personal data we might have. Since we don't permanently store translations or create user profiles, there's typically nothing to delete.
You have the right to object to data processing. Since we don't process personal data for marketing or profiling, this right mainly applies to the basic technical processing required to operate the service.
You can request your data in a portable format. Since we don't store your translations or maintain user profiles, there's typically no data to port.
You can request restrictions on how we process your data. However, restricting basic technical processing would prevent the service from functioning.
We use minimal cookies and tracking technologies, and only for essential functionality:
Essential Cookies: We may use strictly necessary cookies to maintain basic functionality, such as remembering your language preferences during a session. These cookies do not track you and are automatically deleted when you close your browser.
No Tracking Cookies: We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies that track individual users, social media tracking pixels, or cross-site tracking technologies.
Third-Party Services: We use minimal third-party services, and when we do, we select providers with strong privacy commitments. Any third-party services we use are configured to minimize data collection and are bound by privacy agreements.
You can configure your browser to reject all cookies, though this may impact basic functionality like language preference memory.
Where Your Data is Processed: Our services operate on cloud infrastructure. Your translation requests are processed on secure servers and the data is immediately discarded after processing. We do not maintain permanent databases of user translations.
How We Protect Your Data: We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure server configurations, regular security updates, access controls and authentication, and automated monitoring for suspicious activity.
Data Retention: We retain data for the shortest time possible. Translation data: Held in memory only during processing (seconds), then immediately discarded. Technical logs: Retained for up to 30 days for security and troubleshooting, then automatically deleted. Anonymous statistics: Retained indefinitely as they cannot be linked to individuals.
While we implement strong security measures, no internet transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take every reasonable precaution to protect your data.
We use a small number of third-party services to operate our platform:
AI Translation Services: We use third-party AI services to power our translation and text-to-speech features. These providers process your text to generate results but are contractually bound not to use your data for their own purposes or to train models without explicit consent.
Cloud Infrastructure: Our service runs on cloud infrastructure providers who have access to basic technical data but are bound by strict data processing agreements.
We carefully vet all third-party providers to ensure they maintain privacy standards consistent with our own. We do not share data with third parties for marketing, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to providing our core translation services.
Our service is available to users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, this applies equally to all users.
Parents and guardians should be aware that while our service is safe for children to use, no online service can guarantee complete safety. We recommend parental supervision for young users and encourage parents to discuss online privacy with their children.
Our service is available globally and may process data in various countries depending on server locations. When we transfer data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including use of providers with strong privacy commitments and implementation of technical measures to protect data in transit.
If you're located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other regions with specific data protection laws, please note that your data may be processed in countries with different privacy laws. However, since we don't permanently store personal data or translations, international transfer risks are minimal.
Even though we collect minimal data, you still have control over your privacy:
Use Without Registration: You can use our entire service without creating an account, providing an email, or sharing any personal information.
Browser Settings: Configure your browser to reject cookies, block scripts, or use privacy-focused settings. Our core functionality works without cookies.
VPN or Privacy Tools: You're welcome to use VPNs, privacy browsers, or other tools to further protect your privacy. We don't block or discriminate against users who take additional privacy precautions.
Avoid Sensitive Information: Don't include highly sensitive personal information in your translations. While we don't store your translations, it's good practice to avoid sharing sensitive data online.
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make changes:
• We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
• For significant changes, we will provide notice on our website
• Your continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance
• We will never make changes that fundamentally compromise our privacy-first approach
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. We will never make retroactive changes that would affect previously collected data in ways that contradict the policy in effect when the data was collected.
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom, we process data based on the following legal grounds:
Legitimate Interests: We process basic technical data for security and service improvement based on our legitimate interest in operating a secure, functional service.
Contractual Necessity: Processing your translation requests is necessary to provide the service you've requested.
Legal Compliance: In rare cases, we may process data to comply with legal obligations.
You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests and to withdraw consent where applicable.
If you're a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
• Right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it
• Right to delete personal information we've collected
• Right to opt-out of sale of personal information (we don't sell data)
• Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
Since we don't collect or sell personal information, most CCPA provisions don't apply to our service. However, you can still exercise these rights by contacting us.
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding your privacy or this policy, we're here to help.
While we don't have personal data to access or delete in most cases, we take privacy inquiries seriously. If you have questions about our privacy practices, want to exercise your privacy rights, or have concerns about how your data is handled, please don't hesitate to reach out.
How to Contact Us:
Use the "Report Issue" button on any page of our website, or send questions through our contact form. We'll respond to privacy inquiries as quickly as possible, typically within 48 hours.
We're committed to transparency and accountability in our privacy practices. If you're not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with your local data protection authority.
We built Spanish English with privacy at its core. No accounts, no tracking, no data collection beyond what's absolutely necessary to provide our free translation and text-to-speech services.
